Adult Sailing

Experience sailing on Barnegat Bay. Learn how sailboats harness the wind and what it’s like to glide silently across the water.

SPYC offers an adult sailing program for club members who have no experience with boats or sailing. Through 10 hours of instruction over 5 weeks we will teach you:

Boating safety

  • Parts of a sailboat and sailing terminology

  • Wind and how it powers sailboats

  • Steering and trimming sails

  • Tacking and jibing

  • Launching your boat and returning to dock

  • Basics of sailboat racing

Each week will be a combination of on-land instruction and on-the-water practice

You will gain experience in multiple different boats including Sunfish, Flying Scots and Sand Pipers.
